Term 1           Biological Sciences- Lakelands Growing Gala

Tuesday the 5th April 2016

This term in Science we are learning about Biological Sciences. On Tuesday the 5th of April we will be running the Lakelands Growing Gala with the school community. The students can participate by growing a fruit, vegetable, flower or plant at home and bringing it into school on the day to be displayed on tables outside the library and assembly area. A guest community member will be asked to judge categories at the event and students have the chance to win prizes for their efforts.

The students will need to have evidence that they have grown the fruit, vegetable, flower or plant themselves by bringing in a signed slip from their parents or guardian. The slips will be handed to students closer to the event.

Please talk to your child about what they would like to grow for the Gala. If you require some seeds and a pot Mrs Starbuck and Miss Hill have some at the Science room so all students to have the opportunity to participate in the event. There are not enough donated pots for the whole school so it will be on a first in basis. There are plenty of Sunflower seeds for students. You can also use recycle containers for pots as well.

Good luck!

Miss Hill and Mrs Starbuck

Sky View Night 2015

This term students are learning about Earth Space Sciences. On Thursday 26 November the school will be hosting a Sky View Night between 6pm and 8pm for the school community to attend.

The International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) and Fireballs in the Sky will be attending the event and sharing their knowledge. Participants will have the opportunity to view the night sky through a telescope and discuss with staff from ICRAR. This is a chance to experience the night sky through telescopes, ipads, iphone or other similar devices. Other activities include Lego radio telescope building, a talk on fireballs and meteorites, meteorite identification activity and meteorite dissection activity, alka seltzer rockets and glow in the dark water rockets.

Families are welcome to bring a picnic rug, chairs and your own telescope or other device to view the night sky. Telescopes will be available to use if you do not have one and there are a number of free applications available to download to view the night sky.

All students attending must be supervised by their parents or guardian, and all are welcome to attend this fun filled evening learning about night sky and space.

The P &C will also be providing catering on this evening.
